This is a private, local friendship group composed of diverse, reasonably like-minded individuals living in Regent Square and nearby neighborhoods. We gather informally for friendly interactions with each other and fun adventures. Interests include books, poetry, movies and TV series, pets, music, art, crafts, museums, board games, walking, dancing, health, fitness, maker spaces, LGBTQ+ issues, travel, Pittsburgh area explorations (see "Secret Pittsburgh: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure" book), "unstructured nothingness," and more. I hope to nurture friendships in our local urban space where it can be hard to meet and enjoy uncomplicated, non-substance-centered, social time with compatible people. Members might be from Regent Square, Park Place, Point Breeze, Edgewood, Swissvale, Wilkinsburg, and Squirrel Hill. People outside this area may be included too, but this Odd Circle will be mostly people living roughly within walking distance (2 miles or so) of each other with Regent Square approximately at the center. Mostly this group will promote in-person activities, but friends will also be able to communicate online with one another in the associated forum here on Odd Circles. Membership is free and by invitation only. No one is ever required to attend any particular event. We hope to add new members carefully. While a new acquaintance may seem to fit well with the group at first, it's best to know someone for a while before suggesting they join the circle (I've learned this the hard way). This is not a space for group therapy or counseling. As a friendship group, mutual support is encouraged, but it is not a space for troubled persons to find others to carry their burdens. It is a space for respite from complicated interactions in a troubled world. We don't expect perfection from each other, nor do we expect or allow demanding expectations. Life is short and difficult, yet filled with promise and fun from gentle interactions. R-Squared Circle is a sort of respite space with (gasp) people. In time, I want to have any member able to last-minute set up a gathering something like "Anyone up for coffee and a board game this afternoon at 61B cafe?"
