Join the Literary Short Fiction & Nonfiction Meetup Group for an enriching evening of literary exploration. This month, we will discuss the classic short story “The Bet” by Anton Chekhov. "The Bet" follows a banker and a young lawyer who make a bet about the morality of capital punishment versus life imprisonment. The banker bets that the lawyer cannot survive fifteen years in solitary confinement, and the lawyer accepts the challenge. Over the years, the lawyer's life becomes a struggle against loneliness and despair, leading him to question the value of material wealth and the meaning of life.
